Roma Soul Food at the International Holocaust Remembrance Day Events in Maribor
Maribor, January 21st 2026
On 21 January 2026, as part of a series of events commemorating the International Holocaust Remembrance Day coordinated by Sinagoga Maribor, EPEKA, in cooperation with the Loli Luludi Association, participated with a presentation of the Roma Soul Food project and a screening of short interviews.
The screening featured four short interviews with members of the Slovene Roma minority, created within the Roma Soul Food project. Through personal memories and lived experiences, the interviews explore how food is deeply connected to memory, identity, family, and community.
Rather than documenting recipes alone, the films offer a broader reflection on food as a carrier of cultural heritage, intergenerational knowledge, and belonging. By sharing sincere and personal stories, the screening contributed to greater visibility of Roma culture while encouraging empathy, understanding, and intercultural dialogue—values that resonate strongly within the context of Holocaust remembrance.
Co-funded by the European Union.
