A Summer of Interviews – Roma Soul Food

Serbia, Greece and Slovenia, summer 2025

This summer has been a season of stories, voices, and memories for the Roma Soul Food project. Across Slovenia, Greece, and Serbia, our dedicated teams have been conducting in-depth oral history interviews, with around ten conversations already gathered in each country. These dialogues are much more than simple recollections — they are living archives of Roma culinary traditions, cultural heritage, and everyday experiences.

At the heart of Roma Soul Food lies the belief that food is never just nourishment. It is memory, identity, and connection. Through the stories we record, we are preserving recipes passed down through generations, childhood memories of shared meals, and the role of food in family and community life. At the same time, the interviews open space for intergenerational dialogue and cross-border exchange, highlighting both the diversity and the shared threads of Roma culture across Europe.

In the weeks ahead, we will begin sharing excerpts and highlights from these interviews on our channels. Readers will have the chance to discover not only the richness of Roma food culture but also the personal voices and lived realities that bring it to life. From kitchen tables to community gatherings, these narratives remind us how deeply food shapes who we are and how we connect with others.

Stay tuned as we take you on a journey through taste, memory, and heritage — a journey that belongs to all of us.

The Roma Soul Food project is co-funded by the European Union.
